Power System Evolution - How Ireland is leading the way

The 14th of March 2018 was a record-breaking day in terms of all island wind generation. Wind generation peaked at 3,655MW representing 65% of total electricity generation at the time. This demonstrates that the Irish power system is now capable of secure and reliable operation at world leading levels of non-synchronous renewable generation. This is a massive achievement considering the first-time wind generation in Ireland broke the 1,000-Megawatt output mark was in October 2009.

Electricity Exchange Receive SEAI Funding to Demonstrate Low Cost Monitoring and Control System

The team at Electricity Exchange are delighted to officially announce that we have been awarded funding to demonstrate the capability of one of our new product ranges. The new government fund, which was announced on Monday 10th September by the Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment, Denis Naughten T.D is part of an €8 million support package that has been sanctioned by the Irish government as part of its plan to combat climate change.

This week Electricity Exchange's Managing Director Paddy Finn was featured in Fora's Weekly Questions and Answers Series. Paddy offers an insight into how he discovered his passions, how they play a key role in his success and the growth of the company, while also referencing to one of his entrepreneurial heroes Elon Musk. Paddy also speaks about one of the snippets of advice that our Commercial Director Duncan O'Toole gave him that he strongly stands by "Duncan, said to me very early on that making money is easy but making it honestly is the hard part. That's always directed me towards steadfast integrity in doing business." Advice which is core in guiding the way in which Electricity Exchange conducts business within the company and with our clients.


Our New Home

Friday June 15th was marked as the beginning of the next stage of Electricity Exchange's success story. The company celebrated the official opening of a new purpose-built facility in Castletroy, Limerick. It was a day that allowed for reflection on the beginnings of the company and helped put into perspective how incredible the growth the company has seen over the previous 5 years is. This new office eclipses the size of the first Electricity Exchange office which was only 8ft by 8ft. The intended purpose of this new facility is to allow the company to achieve even larger goals and to facilitate the creation and deployment of new and exciting products and services.

We were delighted to hear that Duncan O'Toole our Commercial Director was invited to speak with Gavin McLoughlin on his Business Breakfast show on Newstalk on Tuesday 26th June. He gave insights into the background of the company including what we do, how we gained a competitive advantage due to technical innovations and finally, what the future holds for Electricity Exchange.


Electricity Exchange's Managing Director Dr Paddy Finn has been announced as a finalist for the 2018 EY Entrepreneur of the Year award.

Dr Paddy Finn will compete amongst 24 Irish business owners for the coveted title of EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2018 Ireland, with the winner going on to represent Ireland at the World Entrepreneur of the Year in Monaco in June 2019.
